Church Plant: El Camino United Methodist Church

In coordination with the United Methodist Church of Honduras, we have planted a church at our retreat center to serve the neighboring communities. Currently our onsite missionary, Walker Somerville, has been designated by the UMC conference in Honduras as its pastor. The church, El Camino United Methodist Church has grown over the past few years, adding more members and holdings baptisms each years. We are currently holding training classes for the church leadership team, preparing them to take on larger roles in the ministry as we move forward. We are praying that we will have an official pastoral candidate (or two) from this church plant by the end of 2023!

We have also planted a second church plant in the community of El Belen, where no church existed for the families of that community. We are currently holding services in the Christian activities center that CAMINO built in that community. However, we have a plot of land ready and will be looking to start construction on a permanent church structure in 2024! Walker Somerville is also the pastor at the El Belen church, but several church leaders from El Camino UMC are also practicing their preaching skills during the weekly Friday evening worship service.
